      @senexx those 8 certainly account for a big chunk of the market capitalization of the Australian sharemarket and hence investor returns. Naively, perhaps, I'd like to think there's more to our economy that market cap. though!

          @senexx employment would be one thing. Although these 8 would clearly have a lot of staff, their % share of the working population would be much smaller than their % share of the share market.

            @sean Is there a quick way to examine that employment data? Would it still be the same if you included contractors to these companies as well?

              @senexx it should be in the annual reports. @p guesses 33k for CBA (the other 3 would be smaller). Telstra would be another big one, the others probably smaller.
